Nodal Water Garden

Nodal Water Garden is a sculpture installation that celebrates the strategic and economic role
the canals have played in the growth of the Valley of the Sun. Starting with the Hohokam
who built the canals to bring water to crops, the canals continue to bring water to sustain
a thriving community.
The design of the sculpture consists of imagery of agriculture, derived from symbols of the
Hohokam and Pima. The interconnected nodes emphasize the history of the canals development
with each of the illuminated shapes representing the life that the canals fostered and the energy
that has been generated by the system.
The source of the light is solar, highlighting the diversity of energy sources that SRP brings to
the valley. Arizona is becoming the capital of solar energy and Nodal Water Garden’s utilization
of solar glori es this accomplishment. The installation is large scale lling the waterway nearly
900 ‘ long and providing multiple places along the path for the community to interact with the sculpture.
Description:
The “ nodes ” are made of uted polypropylene that are formed into various shapes. They rest on
aluminized foam for oating ability and re ective qualities. Each node has at least 1 individual
high output solar lighting module. These modules turn on autimatically at dusk and typically last
about 8 hours. The nodes are interconnected with pvc tubing and connectors. ( See drawings )
